Why You Must Stop Calling Yourself a Bossbabe
I was jogging around the entrepreneurial block when many of my self employed colleagues were still in diapers. I’ve seen jargon come and go, but I’ve never seen as much nauseatingly cute business jargon as I have in the last couple of years.
Specifically, the term bossbabe is too precious and silly for me to take anyone who uses it seriously.
Perhaps the reason for the explosion of bossbabes is that more people than ever are working side hustles (a loathsome piece of jargon for a part-time venture, but I’ll use it because many in my audience use it). Many workers lost their jobs in 2020 at the height of the COVID epidemic and had to cobble together several sources income in whatever way they could. I applaud those plucky individuals. Many had to learn quickly to swim or sink.
Language Changes Every Day
The English language is always evolving. As a writer and professor of English, I have witnessed it in all areas of life. No one calls a hashtag a pound sign anymore, but they are the same thing. I’m predicting hashtag is a word that is here to stay.
